Awards & Recognitions

Members may compete for a variety of awards on the local, council, regional and international levels. Awards recognize industry excellence and achievement in areas of claims, public speaking, automation and association participation.  Below is a description of the council level awards and information regarding those that received the awards.

CWC Speakoff

In order to compete at the State, Regional and National levels in the CWC Speakoff a member must first complete the CWC course on a local level.  This includes training on preparing speeches, public speaking and impromptu speaking.  As a State winner of the CWC Speakoff, they then compete on the regional level at the Regional Convention.

2011 - No CWC Speak off was held at this year’s CT Council Annual meeting.

Rookie of the Year

The purpose of the award is to recognize the accomplishments of a new member who has made significant contributions to NAIW (International) within the first 24-months of joining the association.  It recognizes:

  • participation in association affairs
  • completion of selected insurance courses
  • involvement in governmental activities

The 2011 Recipient was Annette Vinci of the Hartford Association of Insurance Women.  Annette will move on to compete at the Regional Level in April.

 Claims Professional of the Year

The purpose of the award is to recognize a claims professional who has demonstrated superior knowledge of the claims field, experienced professional advancement through educational pursuits, demonstrated leadership in the field, and is an active participant in NAIW (International) activities. Criteria for the award are:

  • Insurance education
  • NAIW activities
  • involvement in claims or adjusters associations
  • civic involvement
  • insurance teaching experience
  • an essay regarding the candidate’s work experience, goals, and
  • Achievements

The 2011 Recipient was Kimberly Latka of the Hartford Association of Insurance Women.  Kimberly will move on to compete at the Regional Level in April.

Insurance Professional of the Year

The purpose of the award is to recognize an individual who in pursuing a career has contributed to the insurance industry through education, creation of industry alliances, and/or legislative activity.  Criteria for the award are:

  • NAIW involvement
  • continuing education
  • industry involvement
  • community involvement
  • essay on an industry topic

The 2011 recipient was Sandi Tilley, Hartford Association of Insurance Women. Sandi will move on to compete at the Regional Level in April.

Professional Underwriter of the Year

This award was presented for the first time in 2008. The purpose of the award is to recognize a professional underwriter who has demonstrated superior knowledge of the underwriting field, experienced professional advancement through educational pursuits, demonstrated leadership in the field, and is an active participant in NAIW activities. Criteria for the award are:

  • NAIW involvement

  • continuing education

  • industry involvement

  • community involvement

  • essay on an industry topic

There were no applications submitted for Professional Underwriter of the Year in 2011.

Risk Management Professional of the Year

The purpose of the award is to recognize a risk management professional who has demonstrated superior knowledge of the risk management field, experienced professional advancement through educational pursuits, demonstrated leadership in the field, and is an active participant in NAIW activities. Criteria for the award are:

  • community involvement
